inspiration’s inspiration

Not too long ago I saw this post from Buck and was pretty blown away.  I’ve always been a fan, but so much about this particular piece just floored me.  I couldn’t stop watching it.  When I was showing it to my wife, I wanted to look at the credits, mostly to see how many people were involved.  When I did she saw a name she thought was familiar; Chris Silas Neal.  We googled him then spent the next 15 or 20 minutes pouring over his work.  It’s really fantastic stuff.

It reminded me of something I heard from a singer songwriter years ago about inspiration.  He said to find out who influenced the artists you enjoy most.  If you go back enough levels, you’ll find some really amazing stuff.  I was surprised how easily satisfied I’d been by looking at work from guys like Buck and leaving it at that.  Not any more though.  There’s so much more to be found by digging deeper.
